Wind Feasibility and Conceptual Design Projects

Granted by Alaska Energy Authority, AVEC is collecting and analyzing wind data to examine the potential for wind energy production and wind-to-heat generation for community buildings in the following villages:

  • Pilot Station – this study is expected to be completed in 2024
  • Shishmaref – this has been a 6 month study with the completed Wind Resource Assessment Report showing a Class 4 resource.  Final report should be completed by end of 2023.
  • Kalskag – this feasibility study will examine the potential for wind energy production with efforts to include an alternatives evaluation and conceptual design that could be used to seek future wind turbine construction funding.  The study is expected to be completed in 2025.
  • Kotlik – this project includes partnering funds with Shishmaref Wind to utilize the ZX300 LIDAR unit.  The unit has been collecting data since May 2023 and expected to be completed in 2024.
