Meet AVEC’s New President/CEO

Greetings to all Alaska Village Electric Cooperativemembers. My name is Tom Atkinson, and I am the new AVEC president/CEO. For most of the past 20 years, I have lived in Kotzebue above the Arctic Circle in a village of 3,000 residents. This time of year is always
a mix of excitement for the changing of the seasons and apprehension for the challenges of the cold, short and increasingly stormy days ahead. Somehow, with strength and resilience, that is the hallmark of rural Alaskan communities, and we to survive. For the past 55 years, AVEC has been a part of helping rural Alaskan
communities survive by providing reliable, affordable electricity. Life in rural Alaska is certainly not getting any easier, nor is providing electricity for it. I am honored to be a part of this challenging environment, and I look forward to working with you to survive cold, short and increasingly stormy days ahead in the beautiful communities we serve.
