Alaska Village Electric Cooperative, Inc., a generation and distribution utility serving 58 villages in Alaska, is seeking a Public Relations Officer/Executive Assistant

Overview

To provide excellent clerical services, administrative support, and public communications for the President/CEO, the Board of Directors, and the membership of the Cooperative.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Compilation and distribution of the Board of Directors meeting agenda and information packet
  • Attending, recording, typing, and finalizing the minutes of at all Boards meetings, Committee meetings and the Annual meeting
  • Arrange for meals/refreshments to be provided for attendees of Board meetings
  • Provide administrative assistance and support to individual Board members as needed
  • Maintain the AVEC policy and procedure manual, and distribute revisions to all holders
  • Maintain Board Resolutions and actions in a permanent file
  • Maintain Bylaws and republish as necessitated by membership action
  • Maintain calendar of events as requested by the President/CEO
  • Make appointments and travel arrangement for President/CEO and Board Members as needed
  • Provide support for the AVEC staff in absence of the President/CEO
  • Prepare correspondence for the President/CEO and Board Members as needed
  • Compile information and prepare reports and presentations requested by the President/CEO
  • Routine office tasks: daily mail sorting, filing, and similar tasks as needed
  • Prepare resolutions, spreadsheets and other documents for the Board and President/CEO
  • Maintain working relationships with state and federal agencies, as well as city administrators and tribal entities in AVEC communities
  • Maintain AVEC Directory, revise annually or as needed
  • Serve as AVEC point of contact for charitable donations and requests; procure cooperative apparel and promotional items to foster camaraderie within the Cooperative and its membership
  • Knowledge of functions, responsibilities, and duties for each department
  • Write and publish monthly articles for the Ruralite magazine and other public communications
  • Maintain all Cooperative communication platforms such as web sites, Facebook and other social media
  • Apprise President/CEO of current events, news and social media pertinent to the Cooperative
  • Familiar with AVEC policies and procedures for other duties as needed

Education: Bachelors Degree in Business, Communications or related field and Communications and Public Relations Certifications

Experience:    5+ years with progressive administrative support experience with additional training in technical writing, public relations, Alaska Native culture, and CEO-Board of Directors relationships desirable

Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent communication skills, ability to communicate clearly and accurately orally and in writing

  • Ability to function with little to no supervision and exercise good judgement
  • Ability to read and understand bylaws, tariffs, and other technical documents
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point etc.
  • Knowledge of math and analytical skills
  • Interpersonal relationship skills
  • Skilled in maintaining internet web sites and social media business communication
  • Skilled in Publishing Software such as Indesign, Photoshop and Word Press
  • Shows concern for quality, accuracy and completeness of own work and those who they work with
  • Adapts to change quickly and easily
  • Shows willingness to learn new methods, procedures, or techniques to improve department or the cooperative
  • Professionalism and ability to adapt in diverse environment to maintain a positive work environment.
