The expansion of the Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corp. (YKHC) hospital in Bethel increased loads, prompting improvements to the 45-year-old power plant. In 2020, power plant improvements included converting generation voltage to 4160Y and installing a new switchgear module and added 10 transformers to the existing plant.
The project was broken into two phases. Phase I construction included pile supported foundations and setting the module and transformers. Phase II work included the installation of all the connection cables and re-strapping of the generators. Phase I was awarded to STG, Inc for $1.399 million. Phase II was awarded to EPS for $2.363 million. YKHC paid 25% of the total cost for this project which was $5 million.
