Steven Gilbert was a respected member of our leadership team at AVEC the past few years. He passed away unexpectedly on April 3, 2016, leaving an enormous gap in our cooperative family.

Steven was born November 21, 1957, in Marion, Indiana. He was an electrical engineer who moved to Alaska in 1984. Steven worked for several power companies and was instrumental in bringing wind power to Alaska. While here with AVEC, he strove to reduce energy costs to rural Alaska.

For 32 years, Steven volunteered in the Bus Ministry at Anchorage Baptist Temple. He also served as a deacon and taught children about Jesus in kids’ church. Steven’s hobbies included flying, camping, canoeing, riding his motorcycle and doing fun building projects with kids.

He was a godly man. His love for Christ permeated every aspect of his life, whether he was visiting the bus kids, helping a friend or neighbor or speaking at a wind conference. Everything he did or said was to honor God. He has left a legacy of lives touched by his love and faithfulness. We miss him dearly.
