Traveling to remote Alaskan Communities
Alaska Village Electric Cooperative, Inc. has an opening for a Journeyman Diesel Mechanic to travel to its Remote Alaskan Communities. This position will preform scheduled maintenance and overhauls of AVEC’s power plant equipment. Applicant must be capable of solving complex problems involving troubleshooting and repair of diesel generator sets while working independently. Must be able to rebuild and recondition components common to electrical power generation systems. Must be able to overhaul diesel engines, including badly damaged and frozen engines, and restore to factory tolerance using high quality workmanship and high efficiency.
Supervision: This position may supervise, operate as lead, or may be required to train Power Plant Operators, laborers, or other traveling maintenance or construction staff.
Requirements: High School Diploma (or equivalent), recognized journeyman status (or equivalent hours). Total technical schooling plus hours of directly related experience in diesel mechanic hours not less than 6,000 hours. Minimum of 2 years experience of similarly complex work after attaining Journeyman status.
