It’s Community Annual Meeting Time!

AVEC is always looking for ideas and suggestions to improve the electric power you receive or help reduce the cost. One easy way for you to share these suggestions is by attending the annual community meeting. Your involvement can help ensure you continue to receive reliable, affordable power.

Community meetings are just one small part of governing the cooperative, but they are an important process that gives our members the opportunity to take part in the cooperative business.

Board Elections

If you want to get even more involved, consider volunteering to run for a seat on the board of directors. Board members serve three-year terms and elections are held each spring. Winners are announced at AVEC’s annual meeting in April.

The Nominating Committee, chaired by Walter Bauchman, is looking for board candidates that represent geographic diversity. If you would like to run for a seat on the board or would like to nominate somebody, contact one of the committee members: Walter Bauchman Jr. of Minto, Clarence Dull of Toksook Bay, Denis Shelden of Alakanuk, Darla Jemewouk of Elim, Janice Demoski of Nulato, Clyde Ramoth of Selawik, and George Beans of St. Mary’s. Meeting Door Prizes

Members attending their community meeting receive a $25.00 credit on their monthly electric billing just for taking the time to attend their community’s annual meeting. Assorted door prizes are awarded, including a gift certificate redeemable at the local store. Each village receives $250 to divide as they see fit and award as individual gift certificates.

Meeting attendees also become eligible for a grand prize drawing of $500 worth of free electric power awarded at AVEC’s annual meeting.

Chairmen Duties/Drawings

Community chairmen are responsible for organizing the community annual meetings and making sure the necessary paperwork is filled out and returned to AVEC. The chairmen and secretaries are an integral part of the annual meeting process and we appreciate the time and effort they expend in coordinating the meetings every year.

To offer incentive to our chairmen to hold their meetings as early as possible we give them a chance to win some extra cash. Chairmen holding meetings in November are eligible to enter a drawing to win $150. Chairmen with meetings in December are entered into a drawing for $100 and chairmen with January meetings could win $50.
